Find out everything you need to know about a campus construction or renovation project. These guidelines provide the information you need prior to starting a project all the way through to project completion.
Before you start
Prior to initiating a request with Project Services, it’s critical to confirm that the necessary approvals are in place.
|Will the project impact a building exterior or public space?||
|Will the project change the use of space within an existing building?||
|Does the project require construction or renovation services?||
|Does the project require landscaping or building maintenance and repair (plumbing, carpentry and painting) for existing spaces on campus?|
|Campus Planning and Development Approval||Space Allocation Committee Approval||Project Services Proposal Initiation||Facilities Management Work Request|
For all requests involving an application to an external funding agency (e.g. Canada Foundation of Innovation, Western Economic Diversification, Genome Canada), check the Office of Research Services Institutional Programs webpage for internal procedures and deadlines prior to initiating a request with Project Services.
Once required approvals are provided, initiate a project by completing the Project Charter.
Project Services takes projects from initiation through to completion.
As each project is unique, individual project timelines are most accurately determined during the planning stage. For a timeline estimate based on project value, refer to the Project Timeline Estimates.
Project Timelines Estimates – Anticipated Duration in Weeks Based on Budget
|Under $50,000||Client initiated – varies based on project||2||7||4||9||2||24|
|$50,000 to $150,000||3||11||4||10||2||30|
|$150,000 to $250,000||4||13||5||14||3||39|
|$250,000 to $500,000||4||14||5||16||3||42|
|$500,000 to $1,200,000||8||25||6||31||4||74|
For a project to run smoothly there is certain information that clients need to provide during the project.
One of the project sponsor’s main documentation responsibilities is completion and submission of the Project Charter. The charter outlines the project scope, key contacts and other details.
